Z-Man Games is producing an English version of the 2018 Hans im Gluck game Lift Off, inspired by the early days of the space race.  The Z-Man version will release next spring.

In Space Race, the players are competing space exploration groups racing to send astronauts into outer space and complete a series of exploration milestones, including launching the first satellites, mining asteroids for minerals, and landing humans on another planet.  In order to complete missions, the players must manage their resources and develop technologies for life support, oxygen, energy, and fuel.  They can also upgrade their rocket ships and hire talented specialists for their missions.  Completing missions provide rewards, with more demanding and complex missions offering the greatest payoffs.

Space Race features illustrations and components with retro styling, evoking the Gemini and Apollo eras of space exploration.  It is the first published design by Jeroen Vandersteen, and is intended for 2 to 4 players, ages 12 and up.  Games take a little more than an hour to play.  MSRP is $59.99.

Other new Z-Man titles planned for early 2019 include Miaui (see “Bring in the Biggest Fish for the Feast in ‘Miaui’”), The Great City of Rome (see “Help Build ‘The Great City of Rome’”), and Narabi (see “Build a Peaceful Stone Garden in ‘Narabi’”).
