Indy publisher Z2 Comics will publish a new graphic novel based on a concept by John Cooper, frontman of the Christian rock band Skillet. Eden: A Skillet Graphic Novel, will feature Cooper and his wife Korey, also a member of Skillet, in the lead roles, and fellow bandmates Seth Morrison and Jen Ledger will also have roles. The graphic novel will be co-written by Alex Paknadel and Dan Watters of Random Shock Studios, who have co-written Titan’s Assassin’s Creed: Uprising comics. Chris Hunt, writer and artist of Carver: A Paris Story, also published by Z2, created the cover and will do interior work as well. The book is scheduled for a late summer 2019 release.

Eden: A Skillet Graphic Novel will be set in Tennessee in the near future and will take the Coopers on a quest to find the meaning behind prophetic dreams that threaten their town and their family. John Cooper describes the story as being about “perseverance, unlikely heroes, and faith in what you believe.”

The Grammy-nominated Skillet has had seven songs make the top ten in Billboard’s Christian Streaming Songs chart, and their single “Monster,” released in 2009, was named the number 1 Christian streaming song (and number 8 Rock streaming song) of 2015. They have released ten albums so far; Comatose (2006) went platinum and Awake (2009) went double platinum. They also tour extensively, and the Skillet fan community is known as “Panheads.”

Z2 has made a specialty of collaborating with musicians to create graphic novels (see “Z2 Comics Finding Success with Music Tie-Ins”), and its Apocrypha: The Legend of Babymetal was one of the top selling graphic novels of November 2018 (see “November 2018 NPD BookScan – Top 20 Superhero, Author, Manga Graphic Novels”). They have two other music collaborations in the works for 2019, Genesis 1 (see “Enigmatic YouTube Star Poppy Releases Graphic Novel Origin Story”) and Tales of the Music Makers (see “Celebrate the Roots of Southern Culture in ‘Tales of the Music Makers’”).
