Green Ronin Publishing announced at Gen Con that it has licensed Hugo- and Nebula Award-winning author N.K. Jemisin's The Broken Earth series. The Fifth Season RPG is slated for Fall 2020.
In 2018, Jemisin became the first author to ever win three consecutive Hugo Awards, all for The Broken Earth series (The Fifth Season, 2016, The Obelisk Gate, 2017, and The Stone Sky, 2018). Jemisin said she’d heard from many of her readers that they wanted to visit the world she’d created in the press release announcing the project. The game will be designed by Tanya DePass (I Need Diverse Games, Rivals of Waterdeep) and Joseph D. Carriker (Blue Rose, Critical Role: Tal’Dorei Campaign). It will use the firm’s Chronicle System originally created for its licensed Song of Ice and Fire RPG.
The project marks the second high-profile science fiction property Green Ronin has adapted. The company published The Expanse RPG based on the bestselling James S.A. Corey novels and TV series earlier this year (see "‘The Expanse’ RPG Debuts at Gen Con").
