In Treasures of Cibola, players take on the roles of archaeologists that have discovered the legendary City of Gold, and are attempting to stake their claim to greatness by deploying their explorers to find the hidden treasures within its temples. The goal of the game is collect the most valuable treasures from the temple vaults by using explorer meeples to bid on the treasure cards revealed each round.
Treasures of Cibola's game play essentially revolves around a strategic bidding mechanic. The player who bids the most meeples will have the opportunity to select a treasure card first, and play proceeds from most meeples to least meeples. However, selecting the first treasure isn't necessarily an advantage because the five treasures to be found in the temples have no set point value, and values of treasures change as they are modified by the cards played as the game goes on. To win, players must strategically change the value of the treasures, over the course of eight rounds, to have the most points at the end of the final round.
The game box contents includes 32 Treasure cards, 8 Power cards, 32 Explorer meeples, and one game board. Treasures of Cibola is for two to four players, ages 8 and up, and plays in 15 minutes. This game will retail for $19.99.Luma Imports also released two board games in August, Cuzco and Incubation (see "Luma Imports To Release 'Cuzco' and 'Incubation' ").
