Books-A-Million has opened a majority of its stores to customers, the company announced Thursday. Headquartered in Alabama, the company has 260 stores in 32 states, with a heavy concentration in the southeastern U.S. The company was operating some stores as of early April, with employees concerned over safety active on a Reddit thread (see "Barnes & Noble Has 120 Stores Open").
The company said it is providing personal protective equipment for employees, installing acrylic register guards at check-outs, and implementing self-distancing markers in aisles and at the registers.
Books-A-Million was actively promoting its buy online, pick-up in store and curbside pick-up options while stores were closed to in-store traffic. The company also launched a "Talk to a Bookseller" program, by which a customer could call and talk to a bookseller for recommendations.
