Longtime comic retailer Joe Field of Flying Color Comics in Concord, California has tested positive for COVID-19, he told customers last Thursday on the store’s Facebook. Field informed customers that his store will be closed until all employees have been tested, and the tests come back negative. Hours will likely be limited at first.
An update posted today Wednesday noted that the store was still closed but hoped "to be back in action before too long."
Field is the founder of Free Comic Book Day, a Co-Founder and the first President of comic retailer organization ComicsPro, and a visible symbol of successful Direct Market comic retailing. We extend our hopes for a fast recovery.
This is an important marker of the risks that retailers take in managing businesses that interact with the public during a global pandemic. As Field urged in his post, "Wear your mask!!"
