The compendium is part of DC’s Milestone program, announced last summer (see “Milestone Return to DC Comics Scheduled”). Milestone was founded in 1993 by four Black creators, McDuffie, Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle. DC published and distributed the comics. When Milestone stopped publishing new material, in 1997, DC tried to incorporate the characters into their existing universe, but in 2017 they announced that they would bring Milestone back as a separate imprint.
