Diamond Comic Distributors announced the recipients of the Dave Hawksworth Memorial Award and its Retail Best Practices Awards at the Diamond Online Retailer Summit, which was held earlier this week.
The Hawksworth award, set up in memory of longtime Diamond salesperson and Outside Sales Manager Dave Hawksworth after his untimely death in 2018 (see "Diamond Announces Annual Award"), is a $5,000 grant that goes to a comic store to improve its business. This year’s award went to ByMeToys in Mishawaka, Indiana, which plans to use the money to build a stronger graphic novel section in their store.
The Best Practices Awards went to:
Best Back Issue Display
Generation X Comics in Bedford, Texas
Best Store Layout
Acme Comics in Greensboro, North Carolina
Best In-Store Signage
Challengers Comics + Conversation in Chicago, Illinois
Best Community Involvement
Famous Faces and Funnies in West Melbourne, Florida
