In the wake of the ongoing supply chain issues, retailers may have to get innovative this year to maintain holiday sales with limited product availability. Popular gifts will likely go fast and with shoppers out early this year, there is the potential situation that retailers may not make it to or through Black Friday with a lot left on their shelves. According to Forbes, holiday sales hit $876 billion last year for the sales period including November and December, with demand expected to be up substantially this year.
One of the possible solutions to this projected marathon of a Holiday Sales Season is to take preorders on gifts that will come out in the near term, but will not arrive for Christmas. This circumvents the issue of having to stock and restock as much, and satisfies the parameters of gift-giving for customers buying for recipients who can withstand not having the thrill of instant gratification upon reception of the item. Retailers can also get creative with the way a preorder is presented as a gift by including a holiday card (see "Gifts for Roleplayers"), a coupon, or even presenting the gift receipt in a fully-wrapped gift box. Here are ten suggestions for preorder gifts for the 2021 Holiday Season.
