Oni Press has announced it will publish Issunboshi, by Disney animator Ryan Lang, a retelling of a Japanese folktale about a tiny samurai with a big mission: To stop a demon from taking over the world. Oni will release the book on October 26 as a 200-page hardcover with an MSRP of $34.99.

Lang is a Visual Development Artist with Walt Disney Animation who has worked on Wreck-It Ralph, Moana, The Mitchells vs The Machines, Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, among other projects. He grew up in Hawaii and first heard the story about the tiny warrior when he was in preschool. Set in feudal Japan, the graphic novel follows the story of a samurai who is only a few inches tall and is the one remaining part of an ancient weapon that the demon wants to reforge and use to conquer the world. The graphic novel was funded on Kickstarter in February 2021 and garnered over $95,000 from 2,175 backers.
