Dune: War for Arrakis pits Paul and Jessica of House Atreides with their Fremen allies against the forces of House Harkonnen in a struggle for control of the all-important planet of Dune and its supply of Spice. The action in the game is controlled through a combination of action dice and event cards, representing the different attributes of the two sides.
The designers have drawn inspiration for the game directly from the original 1965 novel. Nepitello explained their goals in a press release, stating: “Dune: War for Arrakis has allowed Marco and me to once again do what we love the most: look at a story in-depth to find the best way to capture its spirit and put it into a game. And we’ve been able to do it at a grand scale befitting the source material, working with the best developers, artists and producers on the market. We aim to provide an epic experience, while still putting a spotlight on the many individual characters found in the Dune universe.”
Dune: War for Arrakis will feature all-new miniatures and artwork based on the book. Further details, including release dates and MSRP have not been announced.
CMON is producing the game under a sub-license with Gale Force Nine, Legendary Entertainment, and Herbert Properties LLC that was brokered by Genuine Entertainment’s Joe LeFavi.
Last month, CMON revealed a board game based on Cyberpunk 2077 (see “‘Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City’ Hits Kickstarter”).
