Like the original 2011 game, Tragedy Looper: New Tragedies challenges players to travel back in time to prevent a catastrophe in order to escape a time loop created by the Mastermind. Playing through a series of “loops,” these “Protagonists” must uncover clues about the tragedy and find a way to stop it before the Mastermind can complete their plans.
In each loop, the Protagonist and Mastermind players can play cards and use abilities to trigger incidents that can reveal or conceal critical information about the tragedy. At the end of the loop, the Protagonists have a chance to solve the mystery, and if they are wrong they travel back to the beginning for the next loop, armed with the information they gained from previous loops.Tragedy Looper: New Tragedies features 13 scripts and 30 characters, including new material never before released in an English edition. It is stand-alone, and experience with the original game is not needed to play the new set. New Tragedies also offers a special “Game Teaching Guide” and “First Steps” guide to help new players get up to speed. Meanwhile, experienced Masterminds can use the game’s script-writing tools to craft their own mysteries.
The game comes with 1 game board, 120 cards, 118 tokens, and 4 reference charts. It is intended for 2 or more players, ages 14 and up, and can take a bit over an hour to play. MSRP is $39.99.The previous English-language version of the game was released in 2014 by Z-Man Games (see “‘Enigma,’ ‘North Wind,’ ‘Battle at Kemble’s Cascade’”).
March will also see the launch of WizKid’s Marvel: Age of Heroes game (see “Preview: ‘Marvel: Age of Heroes’”). It will be followed in April by the vampire-tech game SiliconVania (see “WizKids Launching ‘Siliconvania’”).
