The newest series in DC's Dawn of DC initiative will be a new volume of the long-running anthology series The Brave and the Bold with Batman as the headline character, although plans call for the stories to include other characters as well. The 64-page debut issue, Batman: The Brave and the Bold #1, will be released on May 16, 2023, with a main cover by Simone Di Meo, open to buy variants by Jim Cheung and Frank Cho, a 1:25 variant by Bryan Hitch, and a 1:50 variant by Nathan Szerdy. The first issue will include four stories:

  • Writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads, who recently teamed up on Batman – One Bad Day: The Riddler, will kick off a four-part story about Batman’s first encounter with The Joker.
  • Artist Dan Mora will make his DC writing debut with a new series of Batman Black & White short stories.
  • Ed Brisson and Jeff Spokes will continue the story that began in the Wildstorm 30th Anniversary Special, with the new StormWatch team taking on secret missions to destroy weapons of mass destruction.
  • And writer Christopher Cantwell and artist Javier Rodriguez launch a new mystery story, Order of the Black Lamp, that starts with Superman finding a decoder ring.

The anthology is the latest announcement to come out of DC’s Dawn of DC program (see “DC Introduces ‘Dawn of DC’”).
