In this strategy game designed by John D. Clair, players will assume control of the one of the influential leaders in their effort to unite or divide Britain during the time of King Alfred. The game takes place over two rounds where players draft cards then issue commands to their Saxon or Dane armies. The goal of the game is to shift the tides of war to their favor as the Saxon forces battle Dane forces for the control of various regions. Players gain victory points for aligning with winning factions and the player with the most points after two rounds wins the game.
The game box comes with a rulebook, a game board, 90 poker-size cards, 10 large-size cards, 3 Large figures, 65 Army figures, 5 player screens, and 180 punchboard tokens. The Last Kingdom Board Game supports two to five players, ages 14 and up, and plays in 30 minutes.
Gamelyn Games will release Tiny Epic Vikings, a new board game, into retail in April 2023 (see " 'Tiny Epic Vikings' Sets Sail").
