Games Workshop will be launching a series of new supplements for the Warhammer:  The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness tabletop miniatures game, starting with The Siege of Cthonia.

This hardcover book sports more than 100 pages of narrative history and new gameplay options set during one of the pivotal battles of the galactic civil war.  Cthonia is the home world of the arch-traitor Horus, under siege by Imperial Fists and loyalist Thousand Sons when Vheren Ashurhaddon and the True Sons of Cthonia arrive to reclaim it.

In addition to the story of the siege, the book details new army-building options, campaign stratagems, battle achievements, and character casualty rules.  Players can also explore the history of the battle through two sets of missions:  five objective-based Core Missions designed for Matched Play and two narrative Apex Missions that recreate important engagements during the battle.

Rounding out the volume are new rules for Zone Mortalis battles, campaign rules for linked battles, and new Imperial Fist and Sons of Horus characters, weapons, and vehicles.  The release date and MSRP have not been announced.

The book is intended for use with the Horus Heresy ruleset, launched last year (see “Games Workshop Preview ‘Warhammer:  The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness’” and “Review:  ‘Warhammer:  The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness’ (Miniatures Game”).

The Siege of Cthonia was announced at Adepticon 2023, alongside a new edition of the core Warhammer 40,000 game system (see “Games Workshop Announces New Edition of ‘Warhammer 40,000’”).
