Restoration Games is partnering with Goliath Games to produce a new version of the 1980s hit game Crossbows & Catapults, scheduled for July 2024.

Like other “restored” games, Restoration is recreating the game in an updated form from its original version.  The new Crossbows & Catapults will offer more variety of castle parts compared, with jails, turrets, and sanctuaries in addition to gates and wall blocks.  The design will also feature re-engineered artillery pieces for more consistent and reliable weapon fire against the opposing fortress.  The new weapons, unlike the original game, do not use rubber bands to propel projectiles, relying instead on springs and levers.

The base game, called Crossbows & Catapults:  Castle Battle, will be produced in cooperation with Goliath Games and will include 20 blocks, enough  to assemble two small castles, a pair of catapults, a pair of crossbows, 14 goblin pawns, 14 dwarf pawns, and 6 ammo pieces.  This version will have an MSRP of $30.00.

A larger Fortress War version will feature more bricks, more figures, more ammo, and the addition of asymmetrical “tactics cards” that add new playing options to the game.  A Builder’s Bounty add-on with additional building blocks and a Weapon’s Cache that adds ballista and trebuchet launchers to the game are also planned.

Restoration Games is funding the production of Crossbows & Catapults through a Kickstarter campaign that has attracted 4,277 backers to pledge $547,571 as of this writing (an average of $128.03 per backer).  Backer fulfillment is scheduled for July next year, but the Castle Battle version may be released before the Kickstarter fulfillment.  The campaign includes a package for verified brick-and-mortar stores.

Last month, Restoration launched a campaign for Thunder Road:  Vendetta (see “GAMA Expo News:  Roar Down the Asphalt with ‘Thunder Road:  Vendetta’”) and a cooperative board game based on the Unmatched system (see “Restoration Games Launches ‘Unmatched Adventures:  Tales to Amaze’”).
