Dolphin Hat Games will release 800 Pound Gorilla, a new card game, into retail on July 26, 2023.
In this game, from the makers of Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza (see "Top 10 Hobby Channel Card/Dice Games--Fall 2020"), plays need to find the 800 pound gorilla in the room. The game starts by placing the spinner in the center of the table and placing the cards face down around the spinner in a ring; action cards are placed in a separate stack. Plaster bananas and coconuts are then placed around the spinner.
A player begins the game by spinning the spinner. If it lands on a gorilla, each player selects a gorilla card, of the indicated weight class (small, medium, or large), from around the ring and flips it over. The player with the appropriate weight gorilla, depending on the weight class, wins Banana points. As an example, if the spinner lands on a large gorilla, the player that flips over the heaviest gorilla gets two points and the second heaviest gets one point.
If the spinner lands on coconuts or bananas, it triggers action cards followed by an attempt to snatch up a plastic banana or coconut, which are also worth Banana points. The game ends when the cards or Banana points run out, and the player with the most Banana points wins. This game is for three to six players, ages 8 and up, and plays in 10 to 15 minutes. It will retail for $14.99.
