Fantagraphics Books has announced it will publish Vol. 2 of My Favorite Thing Is Monsters, by Emil Ferris, as a 412-page, full-color paperback, on April 9, 2024. MSRP will be $39.99.
The second volume continues the story of Karen Reyes, a 10-year-old girl living in Chicago in the 1960s. The first volume was published in 2017 and won multiple awards, including the Eisner Awards for Best Graphic Album—New, Best Writer/Artist, and Best Coloring, two Ignatz Awards, and the Fauve d’Or at the Angouleme Comics Festival. It also sold out its first two print runs (see “70,000 Copies of ‘My Favorite Thing Is Monsters’”) and was optioned by Sony after a four-way bidding war (see “Early April Geek News”).
In 2020, Ferris wrote a one-shot comic for Free Comic Book Day, Our Favorite Thing Is My Favorite Thing Is Monsters, which won the Eisner Award for Best Single Issue/One-Shot.
