SDCC News.  Superior Spider-Man will return as an ongoing series, a new Deadpool one-shot is in the works, and Greg Capullo is back at Marvel Comics.

Marvel VP of Print & Digital Publishing David Gabriel and Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski broke the news at the Diamond Retailer Appreciation Lunch at San Diego Comic-Con.

Superior Spider-Man will be back as an ongoing series.  Marvel had previously announced Superior Spider-Man Returns #1, an oversized one-shot by writers Dan Slott and Ryan Stegman and artists Mark Bagley, Giuseppe Camuncoli, and Humberto Ramos that would coincide with the series’ 10th anniversary in October 2023.

At the lunch, Gabriel and Cebulski announced a new Superior Spider-Man ongoing series by Slott and Bagley that will flow from their current Spider-Man run and pit Spider-Man against a new villain who will make her first appearance in Superior Spider-Man Returns #1.

Gabriel and Cebulski also revealed a new Deadpool one-shot, Deadpool: Seven Slaughters #1, which will feature a week’s worth of kills.  The comic will be written by Rob Liefeld, Cullen Bunn, Cody Ziglar, Marc Guggenheim, Justina Ireland, and Gail Simone and artists Rob Liefeld, Greg Land, Whilce Portacio, David Baldeón, and Phillip Sevy.

Capullo, who worked on Marvel comics including X-Force in the 1990s, is returning to the publisher for a slate of work that will include variant covers and more.  His first piece will be a variant cover for Wolverine #37, due out on September 20, 2023, that was listed in solicits as a “Classified Artist Secret Spoiler” cover, and he will also do the cover for Deadpool: Seven Slaughters #1.

There’s more to come, Gabriel said.  “Greg has a second Wolverine piece that we're going to be showing soon,” he said.  “We're not quite sure where we're going to use it yet. … Greg has a beautiful Moon Knight cover for The Death of Moon Knight in December.  We'll be showing that in the catalog in a few weeks.  And then he's got some more pieces coming up.  And then I think CB is working with editorial to put Greg on the best project, hopefully for next year.”
