Gen Con LLC. has broken their 2019 attendance record in 2023 and renewed their contract with the city of Indianapolis through 2030, according to the Indianapolis Business Journal.
Gen Con 2023 had over 70,000 unique attendees, which breaks the previous record of almost 70,000 unique attendees in 2019 (see "Gen Con Releases Attendance"). This year's attendance is up around 29% from 2022, when the show had over 50,000 unique attendees (see "Over 50,000 Attendees"), bouncing back from the 2021 show, which was rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic (see "Gen Con Attendance Down 50%"). The 2023 event also had 570 game publishers and vendors in attendance and more than 20,000 ticketed events. This is up from 2022's count of 530 companies in attendance.
Gen Con officials also noted that the 2023 show injected almost $75 million into the downtown area in spending on food, hotels, and more.
