Arcane Wonders used the recent Gen Con game convention to premiere three titles ahead of their full release, scheduled for late 2023: World Wonders, Neotopia, and Age of Wonders: Planetfall.
In World Wonders, players compete to build an ancient city, investing in production and commerce to attract a growing population. By constructing a variety of buildings, they acquire different resources to power their expansion as well as earning victory points. Meanwhile, they race to create glorious monuments and wonders, which award more points but drain their city’s resources when constructed.
World Wonders was produced in partnership with MeepleBR and Mundus. The game is intended for 1 to 5 players, ages 12 and up, and plays in around an hour. It was one of the more buzz-worthy titles on display at Gen Con (see “Gen Con 2023 Report and Photos”). MSRP is $49.99.
Announced earlier this year, Neotopia is a game about building ecologically sound cities of the future (see “Arcane Wonders Announces ‘Neotopia’”). Here, players add elements to the city’s three regions, trying to maintain a careful balance between them to maximize their score. As the players are building their city semi-cooperatively, they can take advantage of items constructed by the other players to advance their own score.
Neotopia is for 2 to 4 players, ages 8 and up, and plays in under an hour. MSRP is $49.99.
Based on the video game, Age of Wonders: Planetfall puts players in command of factions from the collapsed Star Union as they struggle to rebuild civilization. During the game, they can explore seven worlds that were once part of the Star Union as they try to recover resources and lost technology, fight hostile forces, and claim important landmarks. The player who can best achieve the conditions described on the Goal sheet will win the game.
Age of Wonders: Planetfall was a joint project with Hobby World. It is intended for 2 to 6 players, ages 12 and up, and plays in around half an hour.
