Fantagraphics Books has announced Charles Burns’ next book: Kommix is a collection of 80 covers for comic books that don’t exist.
Inspired by romance, sci-fi, and horror comics of the 1950s and 1960s and the undergrounds of the 1960s, Burns has created images and titles evoking classic genres, (e.g., Throbbing Hearts and Unwholesome Love), and long-ago eras (Drug Buddy). The themes he’s known for exploring, including adolescence and metamorphosis, are again on display here.
Burns created the acclaimed Black Hole (see "EW’s ‘Best’") and Last Look, collecting three of his award-nominated works (see "Charles Burns’ ‘Last Look’").
The 80-page hardcover is due out July 9, 2024 and priced at $24.99.
