Marvel Comics will release Godzilla: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus, which will include all 24 issues of the 1977 Godzilla comic series, in collaboration with Toho International in October 2024, the company announced. The original series was written by Doug Moench (Moon Knight, Master of Kung Fu) and illustrated by Herb Trimpe (The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man) and Tom Sutton (Planet of the Apes, I…Vampire).
The Marvel series, also known as Godzilla, King of the Monsters, put the title character into the Marvel universe, mostly pitting him against members of S.H.I.E.L.D. Hero guest appearances included the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and (of course) Devil Dinosaur.
These issues have never before been reprinted in color (there was an Essential black-and-white collection released in 2006), and they will be remastered for this release. There are three covers available. The main version is by Junggeun Yoon, while two Direct Market Exclusive covers feature versions of Herb Trimpe’s work from the original series, with either a "First Issue Variant" or a "War of the Giants" variant.
Toho International is the U.S.-based subsidiary of the Japanese studio releasing the new movie Godzilla Minus One on December 1, 2023 (see "'Godzilla Minus One'"). Godzilla is currently appearing in the Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong comic (see “DC and Legendary to Cross Over”). IDW Publishing is currently releasing series and specials starring the character (see “IDW and Toho International, Inc. Ink Monster Deal”).
