J.M. DeMatteis will take a deep dive into Spider-Man history in a new four-issue miniseries, Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin, which Marvel will launch in March 2024. DeMatteis and artist Michael Sta. Maria spin out a dark drama about Peter Parker’s relationship with Norman and Harry Osborn in his early days as Spider-Man, resolving the mystery of what happened to Norman Osborn’s research assistant, Nels van Adder, the Proto-Goblin. The first issue of the miniseries will be released on April 3, 2024, with a cover by Paulo Siqueira.
“I’ve always been fascinated with Peter Parker’s early days as Spider-Man, a time before he fully understood what it meant to be a super hero,” DeMatteis said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Shadow of the Goblin allows us to take a deep dive into Young Peter’s mind and emotions as he makes his way through this exhilarating, and sometimes terrifying, new world. We take an equally-deep dive into the dysfunctional dynamic of the Osborn family, seeing how that generational pain sowed the earliest seeds of Norman’s Green Goblin identity and left its traumatic imprint on Harry. If you think you know everything there is to know about Peter and the Osborns, think again!”
DeMatteis recently wrote Ben Reilly: Spider-Man (see “J. M. DeMatteis to Pen ‘Ben Reilly: Spider-Man’”).
