After successfully launching a comic series based on the Disney cartoon Gargoyles, Dynamite Entertainment is bringing the earlier Gargoyles comics initially published by Marvel Comics and Slave Labor Graphics back into print in collected editions. In the case of Marvel, this is the first time these comics have been collected, and the SLG collections are long out of print. Dynamite is initially offering the comics via Kickstarter and will release them through regular retail channels in fall of 2024.
The Kickstarter campaign launched on January 11, 2024, and exceeded its $50,000 goal by the end of the first day. The Kickstarter is offering four formats: softcover, hardcover, signed hardcover, and deluxe hardcover, all with different cover designs.
The first volume will collect the 11-issue series published by Marvel, written by Martin Pasko and Mort Todd, with art by Amanda Conner, Grant Miehm, Alberto Saichann, and Jimmy Palmiotti. These comics were first published in 1995.
The second and third volumes collect the comics published by SLG in 2006-2008. These comics were written by Greg Weisman, the producer and one of the creators of the animated series. Volume 2 includes Gargoyles #1-12 and Volume 3 collects Gargoyles: Bad Guys #1-6; several of these comics were never released as single issues and have been only available in SLG’s digest-sized trades.
Dynamite began publishing new Gargoyles comics in 2022 (see “Dynamite Gets ‘Gargoyles’”).
