Marvel’s What If…? miniseries takes on the world of James Cameron’s Aliens, with a look at what would have happened if the villainous Carter Burke had survived. Aliens: What If…? will be a five-issue miniseries written by actor Paul Reiser, who played Burke in the movie, as well as Reiser’s son, Leon Reiser, Adam F. Goldberg and Hans Rodionoff (see “Dynamite to Publish ‘Garbage Pail Kids: Origins’”), and Brian Volk-Weiss, with art by Guiu Villanova. The first issue will go on sale on March 6, 2024, with a cover by Phil Noto.

In the film, Burke is a rep from the Weyland-Yutani Corporation whose greed has catastrophic results. The comics start with the premise that he survived the slaughter at the Hadley’s Hope colony and pick up his life 35 years later, when he is living in obscurity, caring for his daughter, Brie, who hates him, and about to embark on a new plot.

“For years, people have asked me about Burke, what it was like to play such a ‘bad guy,’ to which my response was always ‘You say ‘bad’, I say ‘misunderstood,’” Reiser said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Now the world will find out!”
