Long a member of the X-Men, Storm is breaking out in a new direction this summer as Marvel Comics announces new plans for the character.
The first thing she’ll do is join the Avengers, starting with Avengers #17, which will also be the first issue for incoming series artist Valiero Schiti (G.O.D.S.). While Storm has joined the Avengers before, this will be her most prominent role yet. "When we were putting together thoughts for X-Men, one problem kept coming up,” said writer Jed MacKay in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Storm needed to have a presence in a book befitting her status, but it would be weird for her to be on an X-Men team if she wasn't the leader. The solution was simple—she needed to be on the global stage, among equals, and what better place for that than the Avengers?” Avengers #17 will go on sale on August 7, 2024, with a cover by Joshua Cassara, a variant cover by Sam de la Rosa, an homage to Avengers #144 by Luciano Vecchio, and a pinup variant, available with and without trade dress, by Pablo Villalobos.
Then in October, Marvel will launch a new Storm solo series, by writer Murewa Ayodele and artist Lucas Werneck, that will be set in the From the Ashes era (see “Marvel Plans Three ‘Core’ X-Men Ongoings”). Werneck, whose recent credits include Immortal X-Men and Sins of Sinister, has designed a new costume for the character for this series, which starts with Storm being called to investigate a nuclear meltdown in Oklahoma. The first issue will be released on October 2, 2024, with a cover by Mateus Manhanini.
Meanwhile, Random House Books for Young Readers has announced a YA prose novel, Storm: Dawn of a Goddess, by Tiffany D. Jackson, best-selling author of The Weight of Blood, White Smoke, and other books. The novel tells Storm’s origin story and is rated for readers 12 and up; it will be released on June 4, 2024, as a hardcover with an MSRP of $20.99.
