Darth Vader casts a long shadow in Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, a new ongoing Marvel Comics series by writer Charles Soule and artist Luke Ross. Despite the title, the story puts the spotlight on Kylo Ren, the leader of the First Order, as he delves into the dark past of his grandfather in order to come to terms with his own destiny as Vader’s heir. The story is set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker and spans the galaxy from Mustafar to Tattooine. The first issue will be released on February 5, 2025, with a cover by Derrick Chew and a variant cover by Annie Wu.
"When fans talk to me about my Star Wars work, two of my Marvel comic runs come up more than almost anything else: my 2017 run on Darth Vader with Giuseppe Camuncoli and my 2019 series The Rise of Kylo Ren with Will Sliney,” Soule said in an interview accompanying the announcement. “I think both of those worked so well in part because they were set in parts of the Star Wars timeline full of unanswered questions about characters the audience really loves. This new series is not just a combination of those two books, but also a chance to explore an extremely rich section of the timeline that's almost entirely open: Kylo Ren's time as Supreme Leader of the First Order between Episode VIII and Episode IX.”
Marvel announced another ongoing Star Wars series at the Lucasfilm panel at New York Comic Con (see "Marvel Announces 'Star Wars: Jedi Knights'").
