Fantagraphics Books has announced a paperback edition of the Eisner Award-winning The Complete Hate, a comprehensive collection of Peter Bagge’s seminal comic. The earlier edition, published in 2020, is a slipcased set of three hardcover volumes, priced at $119.99. The paperbacks will contain the same material as the hardcovers: The first run of 30 issues, which Fantagraphics published from 1990 to 1998, as well as nine annuals and other comics, illustrations, and ephemera. The first paperback volume, which includes Hate #1-15, will go on sale on August 5, 2025, with an MSRP of $29.99.
The first volume, which is in black and white, follows Bagge’s Gen X protagonist Buddy Bradley through a series of misadventures in grunge-era Seattle, while the second and third, which are in color, continue the story after Buddy and his girlfriend Lisa move to New Jersey. Bagge returned to the story in June for a four-issue series (see "More ‘Hate’ from Peter Bagge") that will be published as a collected edition in July 2025.
