Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Gene Hackman has passed away at age 95. Hackman's career spanned over four decades with dozens of notable roles in movies such as The French Connection, Young Frankenstein, Hoosiers, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Unforgiven. To DC Comics fans, he will forever be known as Lex Luthor in the Richard Donner's 1978 Superman film (see "'Superman '78' #1"). Rest in peace Gene Hackman.
DC Studios' revealed a few updates to their slate at a recent press event, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The second season of the hit The Peacemaker series, starring John Cena, will hit streaming in August 2026, and the Clayface movie is headed to theaters in fall 2026 (see "'Clayface'"). Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is halfway through production, and Lanterns has begun shooting. Sgt. Rock is looking for a new lead after Daniel Craig (see "Bond Actor for 'Sgt. Rock'") bowed out of the movie, and a Dynamic Duo animated movie is in pre-production.
Marvel Studios has greenlit a standalone special for The Punisher, according to Entertainment Weekly. Actor Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle (from the Netflix series) in the film after The Punisher makes his entrance into Disney's MCU via Daredevil: Born Again (see "Punisher in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’").
Disney released a new trailer for Star Wars: Andor Season 2 (see below). The new season starts streaming on April 22, 2025 on Disney+ (see "'Star Wars: Andor'").
Netflix has greenlit Avatar: Seven Havens, according to Variety. The new Avatar: The Last Airbender series will consist of 26 half-hour episodes which will play out over the course of two seasons. The series will tell the tale of a young Earthbender that becomes the new Avatar after Korra. Avatar: The Last Airbender has been a hot IP lately, seeing licensing action across the games industry (see "'Joins Forces With 'Magic: The Gathering'") as well as GN and comics industry (see "Boxed Set").
Legendary Television is working with Akiva Goldsman to revive three Irwin Allen sci-fi series, according to Deadline. The three shows, which will be the start of a new TV universe, are Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Land of the Giants, and The Time Tunnel. These three IPs were all featured in 1960s comic books as well; Land of the Giants #1 and The Time Tunnel #1 were published by Gold Key Comics, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was featured in Four Color #1230. Hermes Press reprinted the Gold Key adaptations of these series in 2009 (see "Hermes to Reprint Irwin Allen Comics").
