Anime continues to drive sales of manga, and some of the hottest titles, including The Apothecary Diaries, Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun, Dandadan, and Kaiju No. 8, are going into their second seasons in 2025. Meanwhile some promising new series have either just premiered or are about to launch on streaming services. Here's a look at some manga with new or upcoming anime tie-ins.
Medalist (Kodansha Comics): This anime debuted in January as well and is available on Hulu. Kodansha began publishing the manga, which is rated 13+, digitally in 2021, and it did well enough that they launched a print edition in 2024. The series, by the singly named Tsurumaikada, follows the adventures of a girl who dreams of being a professional figure skater, and her coach, a former competitive skater who never quite made the big time.
Honey Lemon Soda (Yen Press): Yen has been publishing Mayu Murata's sweet shojo high school romance since 2023, so there are eight volumes of the Teen-rated manga available so far, with Vol. 9 set to be released on June 24. The anime series launched in January on Crunchyroll.
Yaiba: Samurai Legend (VIZ Media): VIZ confirmed at Emerald City Comic Con that this anime will premiere on Netflix and Hulu on April 5. The publisher will release the first 23 chapters of the manga digitally on March 20, and the first physical volume is scheduled for July 8. The story of a young samurai learning to control an enchanted sword, Yaiba was originally published from 1988 to 1993, and there's an older anime from the 1990s that has never been released in English. Aoyama is also the creator of the long-running manga Case Closed.
Kingdom (VIZ Media): When VIZ Media announced it will publish the manga series Kingdom, they described it as "our most fan-requested title ever (see "VIZ Licenses Award-Winning ‘Kingdom’ Manga"). That's not surprising, as it has been adapted into an anime that runs on Crunchyroll and live-action films on Netflix (see teaser below). In this case, the anime have been available for some time and it’s the manga that’s new; VIZ will publish the first volume in November 2025.
Witch Hat Atelier (Kodansha Comics): Vol. 13 of this series made the January 2025 BookScan chart, the first time that series has cracked the Adult Top 20 list. An anime adaptation is in the works and is slated to premiere on Crunchyroll sometime in 2025, although the precise date has not been announced (see "‘Witch Hat Atelier’"). The story of a young girl at a school for witches is rated for ages 10 and up and is published by Kodansha.
One Piece (VIZ Media): Eiichiro Oda's action-packed pirate saga is over 100 volumes long, and the anime is over 1,000 episodes long and still going, but it’s complicated. The anime went on hiatus in October 2024, in the middle of the Egghead Arc, and will resume on Crunchyroll on April 5. But that's not all: Production is currently under way on The One Piece, an entirely new Netflix anime that starts at the beginning with the East Blue Saga. No premiere date has been announced yet. Meanwhile, filming has wrapped for the second season of the live-action Netflix series (see "‘One Piece’ Renewed").
