Oni Press and Magnetic Press have formed a strategic partnership under which Oni will oversee distribution of the Magnetic Press catalog via its distribution partners, Diamond Comic Distributors and Lunar Distribution to the direct market and Simon & Schuster to the book channel. Beginning in Fall 2025, Oni Press will provide marketing, sales, and manufacturing support while Magnetic publisher Mike Kennedy will continue to oversee Magnetic’s creative and editorial operations. Kennedy will report to Oni Press President and Publisher Hunter Gorinson, and Magnetic will continue to be headquartered in Chicago.
"Oni and Magnetic have been sister companies for more than five years, and this new partnership truly will allow us to offer the best of both worlds: Magentic’s world-class graphic novels and games, coupled with Oni’s formidable presence in comic shops and book stores," Kennedy said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "The Magnetic Press line will continue to champion its unique editorial vision while benefiting from Oni Press's established distribution and marketing channels."
Both Oni and Magnetic are owned by entrepreneur David Steward II’s media company Polarity. Magnetic launched in 2014 as an independent company (see "Archaia, BOOM! Vets Form New Publisher") and was acquired by Lion Forge in 2016 (see "Lion Forge Acquires Magnetic Press"). After Lion Forge merged with Oni Press in 2019, Magnetic went independent again, although it remained under the Polarity umbrella (see "Magnetic Press Splits with Lion Forge").
