Writer Cullen Bunn and artist Brian Hurtt are launching a new era of The Sixth Gun with a three-issue miniseries, The Sixth Gun: Battle for the Six, to be published by Oni Press in an oversized, ad-free, prestige format. The first issue will be published on July 23, 2025, with a main cover by Hurtt and a variant by Valeria Burzo, a 1:10 variant by Christopher Mitten, a 1:20 foil stamp variant, and a 1:50 black and white variant by Hurtt.

Oni will also publish The Sixth Gun: Road to the Six #0, a one-shot prequel, on June 4 with a cover by Hurtt, a variant by Justin Greenwood, a 1:10 variant by Matt Kindt, and a 1:20 black and white variant by Hurtt.

The original series was set in 1866 and followed the saga of six pistols with dark powers and the people who struggled to learn their secrets and contain their powers. The new series moves forward 30 years to the end of the 19th century, when the six weapons are reborn and a group of fighters races to capture them ahead of a secret cabal that wants to harness their powers for evil.

The Sixth Gun launched in 2010 and was originally intended to be a miniseries, but it sold so well that Oni bumped it up to an ongoing (see “‘Scott Pilgrim:’ ‘We’re Hoping It’s a Perennial’”). A 2023 Kickstarter campaign to fund a deluxe omnibus library raised over $200,000 from 908 backers.
