One of the two men arrested and charged with stealing $300,000 worth of Magic: The Gathering cards from the vendor storage area at the Indianapolis Convention Center during Gen Con 2023 (see "IMPD Seeks Persons in $300K ‘Magic’ Heist") has been sentenced under a plea agreement. The two men arrested were Thomas Dunbar and Andrew Giaume, both of New York City (see "’Magic: The Gathering’ Thieves Charged").
The felony charges against Thomas J. Dunbar were reduced to lesser charges, to which he pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay restitution, with his co-defendant, of $542 to Alan Hochman (Pastimes), and $27,141 to Wizards of the Coast. The probation will be served in New York.
Dunbar was ordered to write an apology letter to the Gen Con community and to complete 10 hours of community service in Indiana and 30 hours of community service in New York.
The cards that were recovered in New York (see "Cards Recovered") will be returned to Wizards of the Coast. Dunbar will be barred from the Indianapolis Convention Center for two years.
Andrew Giaume, Dunbar's co-defendant, is still under felony indictment.
