Saturday AM, which publishes manga by creators of color from around the world, is teaming up with Webtoon to post its manga on the platform. The program will begin in the second half of 2025 and will include Clock Striker, a shonen story with a Black female lead; Apple Black, by Nigerian YouTuber Odunze Oguguo (Whyt Manga) about a powerful sorcerer; and Hammer, which features a boy who can turn his fist into a hammer. More titles will follow. The manga will be reformatted for Webtoon’s vertical scroll.

The move makes sense for Saturday AM, which started out as a digital manga magazine in 2013 (see “ICv2 Interview: Frederick Jones of Saturday AM”) and partnered with the Quarto Group in 2022 to publish their manga in print (see “Quarto to Publish Print Editions”).

"This partnership with Webtoon continues our efforts to normalize diverse representation in manga by offering audiences a secure and accessible format for our award-winning content," Saturday AM Founder and Publisher Frederick L. Jones said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "As a black man, I've long believed that manga is culture much like hip hop and benefits when it reflects the wide world around us. We deeply share Webtoon's efforts to bring more people to comics on a global scale and can't wait for people to experience our joint plans."

“As a trailblazer championing diverse talent and stories, Saturday AM is the perfect partner to bring more incredible new voices to Webtoon,” added Ryan Lee, Head of US Content at Webtoon Entertainment. “Their work has helped open doors for a new generation of creators, and we share their commitment to making comics more inclusive and reflective of the world around us."
