BCI, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Navarre Corporation (which also owns anime powerhouse FUNimation), has licensed the long-term distribution rights in the U.S. and Canada to Filmation's portfolio of cartoon and live action series. BCI scored a major success with its DVD editions of Filmation's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (see 'He-Man Heads to DVD') and that success obviously impressed Entertainment Rights, the company that controls the rights to Filmation's vintage 1980s cartoon series.
Under the terms of the new agreement BCI will acquire the rights to a number of animated series that have yet to appear on DVD including She-Ra: Princess of Power, The Legend of Bravestarr, Ghostbusters, The New Adventures of Zorro, The Lone Ranger, Groovie Goolies, and Snow White Happily Ever After.
In order to create DVDs with the sort of extras that provide maximum appeal to collectors BCI has once again retained the services of consultants Andy Mangels and Val Staples, who were highly instrumental in the production (and the success) of the He-Man DVD releases.
