Antonio Cade of The Dragon's Horde in Stone Mountain, Georgia feels that now that anime is hitting the mainstream, pricing pressure is eliminating his ability to compete:

I just have a simple question.  How are specialty stores supposed to keep anime customers if chains such as Best Buy are selling DVDs with an S.R.P. of $29.99 for just $19.99?  If the manufacturer is able to sell to the mass market stores at such an extreme discount, there should be a better discount for everyone.  The main reason all of us were not able to sell more anime was because of the price.  Even 10 years ago an anime VHS with 50 minutes of footage cost $30.00.  It was always a tough sell.  We have supported anime for years, and now that it is finally starting to filter into the mainstream we will be left out in the cold by the manufacturers and the big mass market stores.  Everyone should pay the same wholesale price or at least close enough for everyone to compete.
