Ed Sherman of Rising Sun Comics in San Diego, California saw the preview we ran of the Michael Cho Marvel variants for February (see “Michael Cho Covers the Marvel Universe for Exciting Variants”), and feels there are issues that deserve more coverage.
Today as I drank my morning coffee I visited your site as I do most mornings (I look at many industry-related blogs every morning). The top story was Michael Cho’s Marvel variant covers for February. Really? That is supposed to help me how?!
Variant covers are a plague on our industry. I know that Mr. Griepp was around in the early nineties when variant covers played a huge part in the near collapse of the direct market, yet here you are promoting the very same cancer that is helping to weaken today’s comic industry. Please stop!
How about calling out Marvel and DC management for the horrific blunder called Secret Wars and DC’s disastrous new direction that has damaged them possibly beyond repair. Why do they get a pass? Why do they still have a job? Why is the so called comic press not crucifying them?
How about taking a stand on the Big Two’s abuse of the direct market? Weekly comics, double shipping of titles to skirt the FOC dates, variant covers, lateness or the coming impact of Amazon opening retail stores. You know, things that comic retailers are having to actually deal with in the real world.
