Battlefront Group’s Gale Force Nine has announced a partnership with BBC Worldwide North America to produce a series of hobby board games based on the BBC’s Doctor Who.

GF9 told ICv2 that the deal is for global distribution, and includes characters (and incarnations of the Doctor) from both the current and classic shows. The first game is planned for early 2016.

“We are very excited to be able to immerse ourselves into this iconic material and make the game for a show that has shaped generations of viewers,” said John-Paul Brisigotti, CEO of the Battlefront Group. “Having a serious love of the property is how we make our games, and the Whovians in our design teams are creating something truly unique with this new series.”

The enduringly popular British sci-fi property has been licensed for comics, a roleplaying game, and board games both classic (see “'Clue: Doctor Who' and 'Monopoly: Doctor Who Villains Edition'”) and new (see “Warlord Games Acquires 'Doctor Who' License”). The ninth season of the current Doctor Who TV series premiered last month (see “Jenna Coleman Departs 'Doctor Who'”) ,and a new spinoff show is in the works for late 2016 (see “'Doctor Who' High School”).
