Paramount Home Video has announced the release of Matthew Vaughn's film of Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess' Stardust on DVD on December 18th. Stardust, which earned $38 million at the domestic box office, never quite found its audience, in the face of heavy summer competition, in spite of garnering mostly favorable reviews (74% positive according to the Rotten Tomatoes Website). With those solid notices, Stardust, which stars Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Sienna Miller, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert de Niro, would seem to have a real chance at achieving 'cult DVD' status, especially considering Neil Gaiman's devoted following.
The Stardust DVD (MSRP $29.95) will contain a number of bonus features including deleted scenes, a blooper reel and a featurette entitled 'Good Omens: The Making of Stardust.' The lack of commentary tracks is perhaps an indication that there will be 'deluxe' or 'ultimate' edition of the film released sometime in the future -- a near certainty if this first DVD edition does well.
