DC Direct is going to unveil prototypes of its Watchmen Action Figures at the New York Comic Con, but sent Entertainment Weekly photos of Rorschach and Nite Owl to give those who can’t make it to the Big Apple a chance to check out what could be some of the most highly prized merchandise items associated with Zack Snyder’s movie adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ classic graphic novel.  The finished figures, which will be released in January of 2009, will retail for around $14.99.

These highly detailed figures are clearly geared toward the collector market (one wonders what sort of an age rating the Watchmen movie will get, but it is clearly a property that appeals to older readers and not to the crowd that actually “plays” with its action figures).  The Watchmen movie is due out on March 6th.
