John Munn Comic Book Ink in Tacoma, Washington, shares his experience with Free Comic Book Day 2008 (see “National Comics Holiday this Weekend”), and declares it “beyond amazing:”

What an incredible week for comics, and Comic Book Ink in Tacoma, Washington was proud to be part of it!

It all started with the debut of the Brand New Comic Book Ink lobby display at the Lakewood  Regal Cinemas 15 Theatre.  We chose the fantastic opportunity of Free Comic Book Day weekend, coupled with the opening weekend of the phenomenal Marvel Studios film, Iron Man, and the response was overwhelming!  We are extremely grateful to the folks at Regal Cinemas for letting us share the experience of this blockbuster weekend.

Saturday, May 3rd 2008 was the main event.  Regal Cinemas was there too, and we are proud to announce that they gave out a phenomenal number of free posters at our store on Free Comic Book Day and signed up a whole bunch of people for their Regal Crown Card.

Local Artist Jesse Munoz was ready to sketch the day away, but couldn't be prepared for the overwhelming response to his work and the 65 Sketches he created during the course of the day.

And the shop?  We stocked up on 30% more free comics than last year and the folks were lined up outside and raring to go when we opened the door!

Families were an incredible part of the day as well as new and older readers of comics. Special guests arrived throughout the day like DC Comics’ Power Girl, Dark Horse Comics’ Lobster Johnson from Hellboy and even Darth Maul from the Star Wars Films.

The atmosphere of all the holidays rolled into one never subsided throughout the day as we gave out well over 8,000 comics and had more than enough left over to donate to two local organizations (Oakwood Elementary School and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.)

This was our sixth Free Comic Book Day and we honestly can't wait another second for next year (but we guess we'll have to)!!!
