Ilan Strasser of Fat Moose Comics and Games in Whippany, New Jersey, has been following the commentary on All Star Batman and Robin #10 (see “Ted Mays of Gecko Books & Comics on 'ASBR' #10”) and says he would have destroyed any copies had he received them:

I told my customers that had I received my copies of ASB & R #10, I would have had no problem destroying them, regardless of the fact that I knew they would be up on eBay commanding quite a price.  I told them my personal ethics and my sad dismay at the state of comic books today versus what comics once were would leave me no choice but to do so.

Technology, self-serving publishers (retail partners indeed!), irresponsible creators, a distributor that thrives on its monopolistic policies all are contributing to the demise of the industry.  I’d rather go out of business at this point than contribute to the overall decay of a once proud industry -- one that could look at the future not only with hope, but with pride.  Where have our heroes gone indeed?

By the way, one of those customers, also a good friend, had this to say: “you’re a dinosaur!”  So be it.

Anybody want to buy a suburban store in northern New Jersey
