Monday’s New York Times offered readers another prominently placed article on comics by George Gene Gustines, this one on A.D.:  New Orleans After the Deluge (see “Review of A.D.”).  Taking up most of the above-the-fold space on the Arts section with a large reproduction of an interior page, with another large illustration inside the section, the article reflects the growing importance the Gray Lady is placing on coverage of comics.

The A.D. article follows a similarly placed article by Gustines in the Times on August 11th, on Unknown Soldier.

The subject matter of the two articles has in common the placement of a story in a real world environment surrounded by real world events.  A.D. follows seven people from around New Orleans and what happens to them during and after the flooding following Hurricane Katrina.  Unknown Soldier is set in modern Uganda.
