I just read Dan Urazandi's comments in the Talk Back section and I couldn’t agree more. Tuesday release dates are what we, as a PROFESSIONAL community should look at. The Scott Pilgrim Vol. 6 early release is just the beginning. What if DC decided to do this with Batman: Arkham Asylum HC that came out last month during the release of the Arkham Asylum game (granted, the game came out months previously, but you know when the sequel game comes out, DC/Warner execs are going to take notice with Scott Pilgrim)? Don’t think DC would do that? Anyone remember when Toys R us sold Watchmen DC Direct figures? I don’t know about you, but that did hurt us a little bit. The Scott Pilgrim early release almost hurt us too.
The whole "but Wednesday is OUR day" nonsense needs to stop. Mass-market retailers do not care and will capitalize on this market's inability to change. Hasting's has started, Toys R Us already has a plan (albeit, not a great one) in place, and who knows who will be next (although, I do not rule out Borders or Barnes & Noble). The comic market is not our private little sector any longer... and (comic) retailers NEED to start grasping that notion. It's not just OUR world any more... it's time to share.
