In April Marvel is launching a five-issue miniseries Skaar: King of the Savage Land featuring Skaar, son of the Hulk. Skaar, the offspring of Hulk’s tryst with the alien Caiera, burst on to the scene in the concluding chapters of Greg Pak’s World War Hulk crossover in which Skaar, filled with patricidal intentions, made his way to Earth for a mega-showdown with his father.

After their confrontation comes to a surprisingly peaceful conclusion, Skaar finds in the Savage Land a harsh environment filled with challenges that appeal to him.  Of course the Savage Land already has a “king of the jungle,” Ka-Zar.  Ka-Zar and his wife Shanna the She-Devil figure prominently in the new series.  Rob Williams, who is writing the series, offered some guarded comments on Marvel.com about the conflict for dominance in the Savage Lands: “I don't want to give too much away, but the status quo of Ka-Zar as democratic leader is going to be ripped to pieces early on.  A very old player with a strong tie to the Savage Land will reemerge and it will lead to civil war between the tribes along with the shutting off of links to the outside world.  This is a war for the soul of the Savage Land and Skaar finds himself forced to choose a side.”
