Andy Vetromile, a freelance writer, editor, and developer in the gaming industry read Glen Soustek's Talk Back regarding Upper Deck cutting up vintage comic books (see "Glen Soustek of Westlake Cards, Comics & Coins on Cutting Up Comics") and had this to say.

While I share a shudder at the idea of someone cutting up a comic book, regardless of vintage, I cannot agree with Glen Soustek's take on the matter without knowing more about what goes on under the hood.  Upper Deck may have obtained non-mint copies of the books in question, perhaps issues without covers whose value would be negligible in many cases.  Once repurposed, their new format apparently reinstates their collectible status as least as far as card aficionados go.  Since the value of the materials before or after the process is no more and no less than what people are willing to pay, it's hard for me to argue the relative values of these items just as I couldn't say whether the digital, Essential, and Showcase comic collections of recent years devalued the originals.

Now if they had chopped up a game...
