Hobbit helmer Peter Jackson provides a 13-minute progress report on the production of the two Hobbit movies direct from the film's set in New Zealand. This footage will likely turn up in some form or another as one of the extras on the DVD/Blu-ray release of the film.
Jackson declined the opportunity to do a Hobbit presentation at San Diego, saying that he felt "it was too early. There's just so much more of the films still to shoot," but he did post this video blog with begins with a clever James Bond riff and they moves quickly into a behind-the-scenes look at a scene shot in Gollum's cave with Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman, followed by lots of shots of the Dwarves and their makeup, their fight training. Add in shots of Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett, plus a musical number and a rollicking dinner scene featuring the whole company, and this becomes one fascinating behind-the-scenes feature---and the best news is that we don't have to be in San Diego or wait until the DVD comes out to see it.
The first Hobbit movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey debuts on December 14th, 2012.
