Comic-Con News—The 2011 Eisner Awards were announced last nigth and John Layman’s Chew (published by Image) won the coveted “Best Continuing Series” Award. Scott Snyder, Stephen King and Rafael Albuquerque’s American Vampire was named “Best New Series,” while Joe Hill took home his first “Best Writer” Award for Locke & Key (IDW), and Darwyn Cooke won “Best Writer/Artist for his Richard Stark’s Parker adaptations (also IDW). Skottie Young was named “Best Penciller” for his work on Marvel’s Oz books, and Juanjo Guarrido won “Best Painter” for his Blacksad from Dark Horse.
 
Mike Mignola won two major awards, “Best Cover Artist” for The Plague Ships (Dark Horse) and “Best Single Issue” for Hellboy:Double Featre of Evil.(also Dark Horse).  Jacques Tardi’s It Was the War in the Trenches (Fantagraphics) also won two awards “Best Reality-Based Work” and “Best U.S. Adaptation of International Material.” Dan Clowes’ Wilson (Drawn & Quarterly) and Jim McCann’s Return of the Dapper Men  (Archaia) shared the prestigious “Best New Graphic Album” Award.
 
Naoki Urusswa’s 20th Century Boys (Viz Media) won the “Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia” Award, while Raina Telgemeier’s Smile (Scholastic) was named “Best Publication for Teens,” and Shannon Wheeler’s I Thought You Would Be Funnier (Boom! Studios) garnered the “Best Humor Publication" Award.
