Comics auteur Mark Millar said in an interview with the Scottish Daily Record last weekend that Kick-Ass 2 will shoot this summer.  That would fit in the window that Millar identified as necessary to make the film work (see “There’s a Window for ‘Kick-Ass’ 2”) with the ages of the characters.  But little else is known of the sequel, except that Matthew Vaughn, who directed the first film, will not direct the second, although he is expected to direct The Secret Service, another Millar property (see “Vaughn Choosing Millar Comics Film”).
Perhaps one reason for the secrecy is that this film may be another low-budget, self-funded affair.  Director Vaughn raised the money for the first Kick-Ass film, which was made for $30 million and grossed $96 million worldwide and did well on DVD, generating substantial profits.
Millar also said that a film based on his graphic novel American Jesus will also shoot this summer.
